The Post-Prop. 1 Debate (Slog)

Friends of Seattle is in the news.

Erica C. Barnett, "The Post-Prop. 1 Debate," Slog: The Stranger's Blog (21 Mar 2008)

Last night, Friends of Seattle hosted a transportation panel at Spitfire in Belltown featuring Mayor Greg Nickels (who spoke but didn’t stay), City Council member Jan Drago, Sound Transit planner Greg Walker, Transportation Choices Coalition regional policy director Rob Johnson, and Sierra Club Cascade chapter chairman Mike O’Brien.

What struck me most during the discussion is how much everyone in Seattle’s environmental and political establishment has moved toward the once-radical Sierra Club’s transit-without-roads position.

Sound Transit Version 2.1 (Crosscut)

And what about the local Sierra Club, one of the notable opponents of last fall's mammoth roads-and-transit proposal? "We're still considering it," says Mike O'Brien, the organization's chair. He says his group wants an analysis of the greenhouse gas effects of the shortened plan before it signs on. He sounds reasonably encouraged, however.

O'Brien spoke on a transportation panel I moderated on Thursday, March 20, sponsored by Friends of Seattle. Other panelists were Rob Johnson of Transportation Choices, Jan Drago of the Seattle City Council, and Greg Walker of Sound Transit.

Discuss This, Panelists (HorsesAss.org)

I went to a Friends of Seattle event last night... A thought for anyone who puts on a panel discussions. Please try to make more time for questions for the panel. I’ve always found the Q&A time more informative than anything else. It would be nice to be able to ask questions throughout the discussion, instead of just at the end. While I don’t go to a lot of these things, for the ones to do go to, this is SOP. And that’s a bummer.

Friends of Seattle Forum (Seattle Transit Blog)

Friends of Seattle is in the news.

Daimajin, "Friends of Seattle Forum, Seattle Transit Blog (21 Mar 2008)

Last night, I went to the Friends of Seattle Forum at what was the old Sit'N Spin and is now the Spitfire bar. There was a panel with Jan Drago, Seattle City Council member, Mike O'Brien from the Sierra Club Cascade Chapter, Rob Johnson from Transportation Choices, and Greg Walker from Sound Transit. It was moderated by CR Douglas, who writes for Crosscut... It was a great forum, and the Friends of Seattle did an awesome job. And it was cool to meet Carless in Seattle, see Frank again, and chat with others interested in transit in our area.
